Rooted Path Honours National Day for
Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
This September, Rooted Path is spotlighting two Indigenous-inspired recipes in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
Food is more than what we eat. For Indigenous Peoples, food has long been connected to land, community, culture, knowledge, and responsibility. Colonization disrupted many of these relationships through displacement, residential schools, restrictions on traditional practices, and changes to Indigenous food systems.
Through these recipes, we invite you to learn about the ingredients on your plate, where they come from, and the stories and knowledge they carry. Truth and Reconciliation is not limited to one day. Learning, listening, and understanding are steps we can take throughout the year.
Prefer to leave the cooking to us?
Throughout September, FoodZen will also be featuring Indigenous-inspired dishes made with our Rooted Path Canadian 5-Spice Blend. It’s another opportunity to experience these flavours, discover Indigenous ingredients and food traditions, and continue the conversation around the food on our plates.
